Ask Analyst: ask questions about your ads

Ask Analyst is a chat on the Ad performance page. You type a question about your ads and get an answer built from your own store's ad data. Open it from Performance > Ad performance.

Problem and intended user

This feature is for the media buyer (the person who runs your paid ads) and the ecommerce manager (the person who runs the store). You often need a quick answer, such as which ads lost money last month, and the answer sits across several tables and filters. Without a fast way to ask, you either skip the question or decide on a guess.

Current workflow

You open the Ad performance page and set the dates, the platform and the view by hand. You read the rows, sort them and compare. For anything that spans platforms or periods, you export numbers to a spreadsheet, or you ask an agency or a colleague to pull them for you.

Prerequisites

  • Connect Meta Ads, Google Ads or both, and wait for the first ad sync to finish. See Ad performance.
  • Your order and customer data, which Nexus connects by itself. Profit answers need it.
  • Ads that Nexus has already broken down into concepts, for questions about creative concepts.

How Nexus works

Nexus reads the same ad data that the Ad performance page shows for your store. It answers with your numbers only, and it does not use other stores' data. The answer is written in words, and it often comes with a short chart or table. Asking a question changes nothing in your ad accounts, and no step needs an approval.

Because the numbers come from the same source as the Ad performance page, the Analyst talks about profit after ad spend. It does not repeat the revenue that the ad platforms credit to themselves.

Open the Analyst

You have three ways in.

  • Select Ask Analyst at the top of the Ad performance page. A Nexus Analyst panel opens beside the page, so you can keep the numbers in view while you ask.
  • Type in the Ask the Analyst box under the headline numbers and send it. Nexus starts a new chat with your question.
  • Select Open the full Analyst page in the panel. The full page, titled Analyst, gives the chat the whole screen. An Ad performance link takes you back.

Ask a question

  1. Type your question in the field that reads Ask about your ads.
  2. Send it.
  3. Read the answer and any chart or table that comes with it.
  4. Ask a follow-up in the same chat, or select New chat to start fresh.

Write the question the way you would say it. These work:

  • "Which ads lost me the most money last month?"
  • "How did Meta compare to Google this quarter?"
  • "What are my top creative concepts?"

If you have no question yet, a Start with one of these list offers starter suggestions. They cover common questions: daily spend against revenue, your biggest losing ads over the last 30 days, your top concepts, and Meta against Google. Select one to ask it.

Manage your chats

Select Chats to see your chats. You can search them by title, and Nexus groups them by how recently you used them. Open the actions menu on a chat to use these.

ActionWhat it does
RenameGives the chat a title you choose. Nexus also titles a chat for you after your first question.
ArchiveRemoves the chat from your list.

On the full page, you can also rename the chat that is open. Chats are kept for 90 days.

Exact output

Each answer is a short written reply, and many come with a chart or a table. Your question appears above the answer. Under the answer, Copy response copies the answer to your clipboard, including the numbers behind a chart.

When you ask for a date range that ends before today, the answer says it stopped at your most recent day with ad data. For example, if your last ad data is from three days ago, the answer says so and does not guess the days after.

Open the Ad performance page to check any number the Analyst gives you. The page shows the same ads, so you can confirm a result before you act on it.

Expected value and measurement

The Analyst can help you reach an answer sooner and ask more questions than you would build by hand in tables and filters.

To check a result, ask the same question on the Ad performance page. Set the same dates and the same platform, and compare the numbers. A change in your results over time shows in Gross profit after ad spend and You spent on that page. You cannot isolate the effect of one change when budgets, offers, prices or seasons moved at the same time.

Limitations and exceptions

  • Ads only. The Analyst answers questions about your ads and your ad spend. For other questions, use the matching page in Nexus.
  • Meta and Google. It covers the ad platforms that the Ad performance page covers, and no others.
  • Written by AI. The Analyst writes each answer with AI, and an answer can be wrong. Check a number that matters on the Ad performance page before you act on it.
  • Data stops at your latest day. If a range ends before today, the answer says it stopped at your most recent day with ad data.
  • Concept answers need a breakdown. Questions about concepts cover only the ads that Nexus has already broken down. See Ad performance.
  • No order data. Profit answers are limited until your order data exists for the period.
  • Question length. The question field takes a limited amount of text. Keep each question short.
  • Chats. Nexus keeps a chat for 90 days. An archived chat leaves your list.
  • When an answer fails. The chat shows a message in place of the answer. Send the question again. If you stopped a reply on purpose, you can ask again.
  • Demo Mode. The answers use sample data.
