Morning Brief
The Morning brief is a one-page summary of your store for today. You open it from the daily brief strip.
Problem and intended user
The ecommerce manager (the person who runs the store) starts each day by working out how the store did and which problems matter most. The media buyer (the person who runs your paid ads) asks the same about ads. When no one answers early, an urgent issue can wait behind routine checks.
Current workflow
A merchant who wants a written start-of-day summary writes it. The merchant reads GA4 for traffic, Shopify admin reports for orders, and the ad and review apps' own dashboards for problems. The merchant then lists the open problems in a note or a message for whoever acts on them.
Prerequisites
- Store data. The brief is built from your store's order and customer history. Finish the setup wizard and let your first import complete. See While your data imports.
- Google Analytics. Connect it when Nexus has no order data from your store. See Google Analytics 4.
- Insights. The issues and wins come from insights Nexus has produced for your store.
- Persona. Optional. You pick your persona in the setup wizard. To change a persona later, see Team and roles.
How Nexus works
Nexus builds one brief a day for your store on its own. Settings > Store Status shows the row Morning brief and the last time Nexus produced it. See Store Status. The page shows the brief date and Generated at with a time. Fixed rules choose every figure and list. AI writes only the narrative.
- Yesterday's numbers. Nexus reads your Shopify orders, or Google Analytics when it has no order data from your store. When Nexus cannot read fresh order data from your store, the brief can show an estimate from Google Analytics. The label Estimated via GA4 marks it.
- Needs your attention. Nexus lists your most urgent open insights, most important first.
- What's going well. Nexus lists insights resolved recently. It skips insights that closed only because they went stale.
- Verdict. Needs attention means at least one issue is listed. Looking strong means no issue and at least one win. Otherwise, such as on a quiet day, it is Mixed signals.
When AI is not available, the narrative comes from a fixed template that ends with "(AI narrative temporarily unavailable — the figures and insights below are current.)".
Open the brief
Nexus has no menu item for the brief. Nothing else links to it.
WARNING
The strip stops showing once you open the brief or click its close button. Open the brief before you close the strip.
- Click the strip.
- Read the brief.
Opening the brief marks it as seen. The strip comes back when the next brief has items.
Work through the issues
Needs your attention lists issues. Each row is a finding that also lives in your Insights.
- Read the row and its figure.
- Click Investigate on the row. Its hover text is Mark as in progress. The row now shows In Progress.
- When you finish the work, click the check icon, Mark as resolved. The row shows Resolved.
- If the issue does not matter, click the close icon, Dismiss. The row shows Dismissed and dims.
Each click updates the status of the finding behind the row. The brief does not remember the state of a row. After a reload, the row shows its action button again, and the finding keeps its new status in Insights. To work a finding in depth, see Work through findings.
When a row is dismissed, a Show dismissed button appears at the top right of the band. Click it to show them. It then reads Hide dismissed.
Switch your personalized view
If your persona is not Manager or All-Rounder, Nexus trims the lists to what suits your role. A pill reads "Personalized for:" and your persona. Click Show full brief to see every item. Click Show my brief to return.
Exact output
The daily brief strip
When a new brief has items for you, a strip appears with this text: "N new items in today's brief · $X potential impact". The amount is in your store currency. If the items carry no money estimate, the strip shows only the count. The count and the amount can include items that the page does not list.
- Inside Shopify Admin, the strip sits at the top of the page content.
- In a standalone browser window on a wide screen, it sits at the top of the left menu.
- The strip does not show on the Morning brief page itself.
The brief page
| Part | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Date and Generated at time | The day of the brief and when Nexus built it. If today's brief is not ready, the page shows the latest one, with its own date. |
| Greeting and verdict | "Good morning." and one of three labels: Looking strong, Mixed signals or Needs attention. |
| Narrative | A short paragraph in plain words about the day. |
| Yesterday’s numbers | Revenue, Orders and Active Customers for yesterday. A label names the source: "From your Shopify orders" or "Estimated via GA4", which is an estimate. |
| What’s going well | Wins, each with a figure. |
| Needs your attention | Issues to act on, each with a figure. The first row has a red accent. The others have an amber accent. |
The figure on an issue is the monthly money estimate for that insight. When the insight has none, the figure is its priority tier.
What to do with it
| What you see | Decision or action | Owner |
|---|---|---|
| A row under Needs your attention | Click Investigate to mark it in progress, do the work, then click Mark as resolved. | ecommerce manager |
| A row about ads or creatives | Do the work in Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads or your design tool, outside Nexus. Then mark the row. | media buyer or creative strategist |
| A row that does not matter to you | Click Dismiss. | ecommerce manager, media buyer or creative strategist, by topic |
| Yesterday’s numbers that look off | Compare them with Home > Store overview. | ecommerce manager |
| Connect GA4 | Click the button to connect Google Analytics. | ecommerce manager |
Expected value and measurement
The brief can help an urgent issue get seen sooner. It does not fix an issue by itself.
To check what happened to the issues, open Insights > Top findings and set Status to Resolved. Compare that list with the rows the brief showed. To check the numbers, read the Yesterday card on Home > Store overview and note any gap in orders. Nexus cannot tell whether an issue closed because of the brief or for another reason.
Limitations and exceptions
- The narrative can be wrong. AI writes it. The figures and lists come from fixed rules.
- Failed clicks. If Nexus cannot save a click, the row goes back to its earlier state.
- The strip is per browser. It can show again on another browser or device.
- Only urgent issues. Needs your attention lists only your highest-priority open insights.
- Trimming uses words. A personalized view matches words in each item and can hide one you want. Click Show full brief.
- Different order counts. Yesterday’s numbers do not filter orders by delivery. The Yesterday card on Home > Store overview counts delivered orders only, so the two can differ. See Understanding your numbers.
When a number or list is empty
- If no finding was resolved recently, What’s going well says "No wins to highlight yet".
- If nothing is urgent, Needs your attention says "You're all caught up".
- With no order data from your store and no Google Analytics, the numbers slot reads Connect GA4 to unlock yesterday’s performance and shows a Connect GA4 button. See Google Analytics 4.
- When Google Analytics cannot be reached, the slot says that yesterday’s numbers are temporarily unavailable. They return with the next brief.
When the page shows no brief
| You see | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| Generating your Morning Brief | You opened the page and Nexus had no brief for your store at all. Nexus starts one. The page refreshes on its own. You can leave and come back. |
| No data available yet | Your store history is not ready. The text tells you whether the import is still running or is complete. When it is complete, your first brief appears as soon as there is a change worth telling you about. |
| We couldn't load your Morning Brief | The brief service did not answer. Refresh the page in a minute. If it keeps happening, see Contact support. |
Demo Mode
