Demo Mode and sample data

Demo Mode fills Nexus with a sample store. You can look at every page with real-looking numbers while your own store finishes setting up. Nexus calls this sample data.

What Demo Mode is

Demo Mode shows an illustrative store. The numbers, products and ads belong to that sample store, not to you.

Your own store data is not touched. If your import is running, it keeps running in the background while you explore. Setup uses no credits.

Start Demo Mode

WARNING

You can start sample data only while your store is still setting up, or while its order history is still importing. After that, Nexus does not start sample data.

You find the option in more than one place:

  • In the setup wizard, the link Explore the app with sample data instead.
  • On a page that says Still preparing this view, the button Explore app with demo data.
  • In the banner at the top of the page, the button See a demo, then Choose a sample store.

Each option opens a picker titled Choose a sample store. Select one industry. Nexus loads the sample store and returns you to the page you were on.

The seven industries

Industry
Health & Supplements
Fashion & Apparel
Consumer Electronics
Furniture
Home & Decor
Beauty & Cosmetics
Food & Beverage

Pick the one closest to your store. You see sample products, ads and customers for that industry.

The blue bar

While you explore, a blue bar sits at the top of the page. It names the industry you chose. It changes as your own setup moves on.

What the bar saysWhat it meansButton
Exploring sample data (industry): your store is still setting up in the background. A progress bar shows the setup.Your own setup runs.Go back to onboarding
Exploring sample data (industry): your store finished setting up, so pick up where you left off. A progress bar shows the setup.Setup is done, and you did not leave the setup wizard yet.Go back to onboarding
You're exploring sample data (industry): we're still importing your store's history in the background.Setup is done and your history still loads.Back to my store
Store setup is paused. You're viewing sample data (industry).Setup hit an error.Go back to onboarding
Exploring sample data (industry): your own store data is untouched.Nexus finds no setup run for your store.Exit sample data

When setup has paused, the bar also links to the support team. See Contact support.

The Sample data badge

An amber Sample data badge marks cards and pages that show sample content. If you see the badge, the numbers next to it are not yours.

What you cannot do

Demo Mode is for looking, not for changing your store. Some actions are blocked, because they would reach outside Nexus. Others look as if they work but do nothing real.

When Nexus blocks an action, a notice with red text appears at the bottom of the screen and explains why. The notice stays until you select the X at its right edge.

Blocked, with a red notice

These actions stop and show a notice at the bottom of the screen. You see messages like these:

  • Library upload: Uploads are not available in demo mode
  • Library delete: Deleting assets is not available in demo mode
  • Team: Disable demo mode to manage your team
  • RFM settings: Disable demo mode to edit RFM configuration.
  • Connect an integration or an ad platform: Disable demo mode to connect real integrations
  • Add or remove a competitor, for example Disable demo mode to add a competitor to track.
  • Manage or switch brands, for example Disable demo mode to manage brands

Looks as if it works, but nothing changes

  • Syncs, recomputes and other background jobs finish with a success message, and nothing real runs.
  • On Create > Ads, a bulk action on your generated ads shows Demo mode — the bulk action was simulated. No ads were changed. See Review and deploy ads.

What happens to your edits

Treat anything you change here as practice. Your edits do not carry over to your own store. To see how Home cards work, read Home dashboards.

Leave Demo Mode

Use the button in the blue bar. It depends on what the bar says:

  • Go back to onboarding returns you to the setup wizard. The label reads Returning… while Nexus works.
  • Back to my store returns you to Home with your own data. The label reads Loading… while Nexus works. If it fails, the bar says Couldn't switch to your data — please try again. Select the button again.
  • Exit sample data returns you to Home with your own data. The label reads Leaving… while Nexus works. If it fails, the bar says Couldn't leave sample data — please try again.
