The setup wizard, step by step

The setup wizard opens when you press Start your setup. It asks a few questions while Nexus imports your store.

Before you start

Submit the first form. See Install Nexus and start your setup.

How the wizard works

  • A row of dots at the top shows your steps. The name of the current step sits under the dots.
  • Each answered step folds into a card with your answer and an Edit link.
  • Press Next to move on and Back to return. No step has a Skip button.
  • Nexus saves your place. A page reload returns you to the same step.

Import progress shows at the bottom of every step except the last. See While your data imports.

The shared steps

Every merchant answers these four steps first.

StepWhat it asksWhat your answer changes
About youWho are you here as?Which Home dashboard opens first, and how Nexus trims your Morning Brief.
What brings you hereYour main goal. One answer is enough.Which accounts the last step asks you to connect.
Your brandA check of what Nexus found about your brand. The logo and colours Nexus puts on the creatives it makes.
How we workHow to run your first batch of ads.The steps that follow.

About you. Pick one role: Manager, Ad Manager, Email Manager, Strategist or Creative strategist. Your role sets which Home dashboard opens first: Ads overview for Ad Manager, Creative overview for Creative strategist, and Store overview for the other roles. The tab for your dashboard carries the Yours tag. For every role except Manager, the Morning Brief trims its lists to suit your role. You can open the other dashboards from Home. The sidebar stays the same. The wizard does not reopen after Finish, so you cannot answer these steps again there. See Home dashboards.

What brings you here. Pick one:

  • Create ads that sell
  • Find out why revenue moved
  • Decide which products deserve budget
  • See which customers are worth more

Your brand. The top of the step previews your brand and says whether your logo came from Shopify. If Shopify has no logo, add one in Settings > General > Brand Identity. Ads still generate without it. The Colours card shows Primary, Secondary and Accent. Click a swatch to pick a colour. The small squares under it offer colours from Shopify or your logo. You can edit the logo and colours later in Settings > General > Brand Identity. See Brand identity.

How we work. Pick one path:

  • Show me your best ideas. Nexus picks the product, the angle and the copy. You judge the visuals. This path is the fastest.
  • Let me vet each step. You approve the product, the angle and the copy before Nexus makes anything.

One-way steps

Warning: some steps cannot be reopened. When you press Next on a one-way step, that step and every step before it lock. They stay visible, but they lose Edit.

  • On the best-ideas path, How we work is one-way.
  • On the vet-each-step path, How we work, The first product, The angle and The style are one-way.

The steps that follow

On the vet-each-step path, you see these steps:

StepWhat you do
The first productPick the product to start with. Nexus ranks products by what earns most in your store. While your orders import, it shows your Shopify best sellers. If Shopify gives no ranking either, the list is unranked and says so.
The anglePick the angle to build on. While Nexus prepares the angles, a line says "Usually about two minutes, and only the first time for this product."
The stylePick up to three styles, or skip and use a plain product photo.
The visualsKeep or drop each draft. A counter shows how many you kept.

On the best-ideas path, one step named Building it replaces these four. Nexus narrates its work, and you judge the visuals at the end.

Both paths end with two more steps.

Your drafts. Pick one:

  • No deploy now, finish setup
  • Deploy these to Meta Ads
  • Deploy these to Google Ads

Whichever you pick, Nexus saves every kept draft as a Creative Set for Meta and a Creative Set for Google. Find them in Create > Studio. See Studio. Your pick only decides which account the next step requires. Nothing is published or scheduled.

When you press Next here, Nexus also starts to make extra image sizes of the drafts you kept. Setup, including this first batch, uses no credits.

Your data sources. Connect the accounts your drafts run against. Shopify is already connected. The cards depend on your goal. A card marked Needed for this blocks Finish until you connect it. A card marked Recommended does not block it, unless you start to connect it and do not finish.

  • The goal Find out why revenue moved needs Google Analytics 4.
  • A deploy choice at Your drafts makes that ad account needed. To drop this requirement, press Back to Your drafts and pick No deploy now, finish setup.

When a Meta, Google Ads or Google Analytics 4 sign-in finishes but a required choice (a Meta ad account, a Google Ads account or a Google Analytics property) is missing, the card says "Signed in — one thing left". It offers a red link: Disconnect Meta, Disconnect Google Ads or Disconnect Google Analytics. The link acts at once, with the same effect as Disconnect in Settings > Integrations. You can connect again.

Nexus suggests the review app it finds on your store (Judge.me, Yotpo, Okendo, Reviews.io, Growave or Loox). You paste keys from that app. Meta, Google Ads and Google Analytics 4 connect through a sign-in window. See Integrations.

Finish

Press Finish. Nexus saves the drafts you kept and takes you into the app. If it fails, a message appears above the button. Press Finish again.

If setup fails

A banner shows the error with See details and Retry. After repeated retries, Retry becomes Contact support. The step list groups the steps under three phase names. Each phase up to the failed one offers Restart from here. If the error is one you can fix yourself, Nexus returns you to the first form instead.

If a colleague started setup

Only one setup runs at a time. A teammate who opens Nexus meanwhile sees Setup is already running and the progress.

Nexus is built by Omniconvert.
