Products: how the product page works
The Products page scores your products on sales and customer engagement. It places each product in one of four quadrants: Star, Hidden Gem, So & so (products that sell but do not engage) or Simple Stone. Open it from Insights > Products. The page description reads "Quadrant analysis, scores, and JTBD insights for every product."
Problem and intended user
The ecommerce manager (the person who runs the store) judges the catalog from several angles: how products sell, who buys them again and how well each listing reads. Each answer sits in a different report. The media buyer (the person who runs your paid ads) picks which products get ad budget. This page keeps those answers under one filter bar, so a choice does not rest on sales alone.
Current workflow
Without Nexus, each question has its own source. Sales come from Shopify admin reports, ratings from the review app's own dashboard, traffic from GA4 and repeat orders from an order export. Many merchants keep one spreadsheet tab for each question and rebuild every tab after the catalog changes. Some ask an agency to keep the tabs current.
Prerequisites
The page needs your Shopify catalog and your orders. Some views need more:
- GA4 for demand figures and for Classify.
- A review app or NPS data for customer-experience scores.
- At least one sale in the last 30 days for a product to get a quadrant.
See Google Analytics 4 and Review apps and CSV import.
How Nexus works
Nexus reads your catalog from Shopify and your orders. It adds GA4 and review or NPS data when you have connected them. Fixed scoring rules then rate each product and place it in a quadrant. AI does not write these scores. See Product scores for the rules.
Scoring depends on the catalog sync. Nexus scores your products again after a sync finishes.
Filter every view at once
One filter bar sits above all views. Your filters stay when you switch views.
| Filter | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search box | Finds a product by name. It suggests matches as you type. |
| Collection | Limits the page to one Shopify collection. |
| Category | Limits the page to one product type. It shows only when your products have a product type. |
| Quadrant | Shows one quadrant. Each option shows its product count. |
| Stock | In stock, Low stock or Out of stock. |
| Attribute | Gateway, Sticky, Bestseller or Second purchase hero. |
The bar shows how many products match, for example "Showing 12 of 240 products". Select Clear filters to reset everything.
Update your product data
The Update data button sits in the page header. A Last synced time shows beside it. Choose an item from the menu. Nexus then runs the job and refreshes the page when the job ends.
INFO
Nothing is deleted when you update data. Nexus replaces the existing analysis with the new results and refreshes the page when it finishes.
| Menu item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Refresh updated products | Syncs only products that changed since the last sync. Fast. |
| Re-import all products | Imports your whole catalog from Shopify. Slower. It shows a progress percentage and a time estimate. |
| Recompute scoring | Scores your current catalog again without re-importing it. Use it after your data changes. |
| Classify | Gives each product a performance tier from GA4 data. Needs GA4 connected. |
The first three refresh Quadrant Overview, Product List and Catalog Health. Relationships and JTBD Insights refresh separately. Use the button on each of those views. Relationships also refresh on their own about once a week.
While a sync or a scoring run is in progress, the first three items are unavailable until it finishes. Classify is unavailable while a classification runs.
Exact output
The page has a header, a filter bar, a view switcher and the selected view.
Switch between views
The view switcher sits under the filter bar. Quadrant Overview opens first.
| View | What it answers |
|---|---|
| Quadrant Overview | Which products are Star, Hidden Gem, So & so (they sell but do not engage) or Simple Stone? |
| Product List | How does each product compare in a table? |
| Relationships | Which products are bought together or in sequence? |
| Product Stickiness | Which products bring customers back? |
| Catalog Health | Which product pages need better content? |
| JTBD Insights | What job do customers hire each product for? |
The page address keeps the view you pick, so you can reload or return to it.
Above each view, a short summary card states a verdict, for example how many products need attention. It appears after the data for that view loads.
Which products appear
Quadrant Overview scores and plots only products with a sale in the last 30 days. In Product List, a product with no recent sale shows Not scored in the Quadrant column and has no quadrant. Catalog Health covers your whole scored catalog.
What to do with it
| What you see | Decision or action | Owner |
|---|---|---|
| Stars and Hidden Gems in Quadrant Overview | Choose which products to feature in ads. Run the ads in Meta Ads Manager or Google Ads, outside Nexus. | media buyer |
| So & so products (they sell but do not engage) and Simple Stone products | Decide whether to fix, bundle or drop them. Edit the product in Shopify admin, outside Nexus. | ecommerce manager |
| Ticked rows in Product List | Export them, or select Generate creatives to start a creative batch. | creative strategist (the person who plans and makes ad creatives) |
| Products that bring customers back in Product Stickiness | Plan repeat-purchase campaigns around them. | retention marketer (the person who runs email and repeat-purchase campaigns) |
| Weak listings in Catalog Health | Improve the listing content in Shopify admin, outside Nexus. | ecommerce manager |
| A stale Last synced time, or a catalog change in Shopify | Open Update data and choose Refresh updated products. | ecommerce manager |
| Classify needs GA4 and GA4 is not connected | Connect GA4 first. | ecommerce manager |
Expected value and measurement
The page can help you keep every product decision on one set of filters and one data refresh. Each view holds its own metric, so check the view that matches your decision:
- Sales and margin choices: Insights > Products > Product List, columns Revenue and Margin.
- Quadrant moves: Insights > Products > Quadrant Overview, the product count on each quadrant card.
- Listing fixes: Insights > Products > Catalog Health, the product score.
- Ad choices: Performance > Ad performance, grouped By product.
Compare the same metric over equal periods. After a change in Shopify, check the Last synced time first, so you read fresh numbers. A quadrant is a rank against your own other products. A product can change quadrant because other products moved. Price changes, promotions and seasons run at the same time, so Nexus cannot isolate the effect of one decision.
Limitations and exceptions
- Only products with a sale in the last 30 days get a quadrant. Other products show Not scored.
- Scores are fixed-rule calculations on your data. They are not a forecast.
- A new store sees a notice while Nexus imports and scores products. The numbers can be thin until it finishes.
- If the sync finds no products, the view shows an empty panel. You can still switch between views while one view prepares.
- Classify needs GA4. Without GA4, Nexus shows the message "Connect GA4 and select a property before running classification". See Google Analytics 4.
- Without reviews or NPS, the customer-experience score does not drive the quadrants.
- In Demo Mode, Refresh updated products, Re-import all products, Recompute scoring and Classify are simulated. They do not change the demo data.
