Order detail: see how one ad-attributed order was matched

The order detail page shows one order that Nexus matched to an ad. Use it to check the match behind an ad's profit figures.

Problem and intended user

The ecommerce manager (the person who runs the store) and the media buyer (the person who runs your paid ads) sometimes doubt the credit an ad gets. A profit figure can look too high or too low, and one order may be the reason. Without the match details for that order, you cannot tell an exact match from a loose one.

Current workflow

You open the order in Shopify admin, read its UTM tags and discount code, and look for the matching campaign in Meta Ads Manager or Google Ads. GA4 can show the visit. You join these by hand in a spreadsheet.

Prerequisites

  • An order that Nexus matched to an ad, from a connected Meta Ads or Google Ads account. You reach the page from the Attributed orders tab of an ad. See Ad detail.
  • The ad id in your ad links, for a match that depends on the link tags. You add it in Meta Ads Manager or Google Ads.
  • Your order data in Nexus, which connects automatically, for the Line items table.
  • A survey answer, for the NPS card.

How Nexus works

Nexus matches each order to an ad with fixed rules. No AI is involved. A match uses the ad id in the link the shopper clicked, or a weaker clue when the id is missing, such as the campaign, the ad name or a Google click id. This page only reads the match. It changes nothing in your store or your ad accounts, so it needs no approval from you. It depends on the order data Nexus holds and on the link tags that came with the visit.

Open the page

  1. Open an ad. See Ad detail.
  2. Click the Attributed orders tab.
  3. Click View order on a row.

The order opens in a new tab. Close it to return to the ad. The back arrow at the top, and the one in the Shopify title bar, open the Attributed orders tab of the first ad in the Attribution card. When the order is not attributed, they open Ad performance.

The page has no menu entry.

Exact output

Order

The Order card shows the order itself.

FieldWhat it shows
PlacedThe date and time of the order.
Financial statusThe payment status, for example Paid. A cancelled order shows a Cancelled badge instead.
Fulfillment statusThe shipping status.
Discount codeThe code the customer used, or a dash.
Gross totalThe order total.
Net of refundsThe gross total minus the refunds recorded against the order. A dash means Nexus holds no net figure for this order.

Net of refunds appears only on this page. The Attributed orders tab shows the amount credited to the ad, which is a share of the gross total when the weight is below 100%. It shows no net-of-refunds figure.

A Test order badge appears next to the title for a test order. When the order id is a Shopify order id, Open in Shopify Admin opens the order in Shopify in a new tab.

Attribution

The Attribution card has one block for each ad the order matched. The heading shows a count when more than one ad matched.

Each block shows:

  • The ad name and a View ad button. It opens the ad in a new tab.
  • How Nexus matched the order. Hover over the info icon to read the full reason.
  • The Campaign and Ad set of the ad.
  • Weight, the share of the order credited to this ad. When it is below 100%, the block also shows the implied full order.
  • Credited, the amount credited to this ad.
  • Matched, the date and time of the conversion Nexus tied to this ad, and Recomputed, the last time Nexus recalculated this match. A date shows a dash when Nexus holds none.

A campaign-level match shares one order across several ads. In that case each ad gets a Weight under 100%.

The label shows the most specific match that Nexus has. These are all the labels:

LabelWhat it means
Matched by adMatched exactly, by the ad id in the link the customer clicked.
Matched by campaignMatched to the campaign, then shared across its ads by spend.
Subscription rebillA subscription rebill, credited to the ad that won this customer.
Matched by asset group id in the linkGoogle filled the asset-group id into the link. The order is credited to that Performance Max asset group at ad level.
Matched by ad name in the linkThe link carried the ad's name instead of its id. The name resolved to exactly one ad.
Matched by ad group id in the linkThe link carried the ad group id. The ad group resolved to exactly one ad.
Matched by the Nexus tag in the linkThe link carried the short tag that Nexus writes on the ads it deploys.
Matched by Google click idMatched by the Google click id the customer arrived with.
Matched by Triple WhaleMatched by Triple Whale, whose attribution this store imports.

Line items

The Line items table lists what the customer bought. It has Product, Variant, SKU, Qty, Unit price and Line total columns.

  • A gift line carries a Gift badge.
  • A product Nexus no longer holds reads Product no longer available.
  • View product opens the product page. It shows only for products Nexus holds. See Product detail.
  • If the line items cannot be read, the card reads Line items unavailable.

NPS

The NPS card appears only when the customer answered a survey for this order. It shows the score out of 10 and the segment: Promoter, Passive or Detractor. Click the button that reads, for example, 3 answered to read the answers. A response with no questions reads Score only. When the order has two surveys, each one names its type: Pre-purchase survey or Post-purchase survey.

UTM parameters

The UTM parameters card shows Source, Medium, Campaign, Content, Term and Visit type. Visit type reads first or last. It names the visit whose tags Nexus used: the more specific visit wins, and the more recent one wins a tie. A field that reads Not captured means the visit carried no value for it. The whole card reads Not captured when the visit carried no tags, or when Nexus cannot read the order data.

What the page never shows

The page never shows the customer's name, email, phone number, address or order note. Nexus does not load them for this page.

Expected value and measurement

This page can help you confirm that an ad's profit figures rest on exact matches, and find ad links that need fixing.

To check, open the ad in Performance > Ad performance and read Attributed orders and True Profit on its Overview tab. After you fix ad links, open newer orders and compare how Nexus matched them with older ones. You cannot isolate the effect of one fix when ads, offers or seasons changed in the same weeks.

Limitations and exceptions

  • A campaign-level match is an estimate. It credits a share of one order to several ads.
  • Net of refunds shows a dash when Nexus holds no net figure for the order.
  • The page covers only orders matched to an ad in this store.
  • A survey answer that Nexus cannot tie to this order does not show in the NPS card.
